A Winter Concert to Remember
We traveled on a winter journey around the world — from the sunny shores of Miami, Florida, to the emerald fields of Ireland and the vibrant rhythms of South Africa! ❄️🌍✨ Mr. Lee returned with his beloved annual Winter Concert, a long-standing Aaron School tradition that once again transformed the season into a joyful celebration of music, culture, and community. As he does each year, Mr. Lee invited us on a musical adventure, and this year’s performance proved to be one of the most exciting yet.
The concert began with our talented Lower School students in grades K–5. Olive and Spruce opened with a rocking arrangement of My Family by Laurie Berkner, followed by Pine singing We Wish You—a creative spin on the popular Christmas carol that included holidays such as Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, and more—while accompanying themselves on xylophones. The three classes then came together to perform Holiday Lights by Sally Albrecht, creating a warm and festive moment for the entire audience. The energy continued to build as Willow took the stage with Turn the Beat Around by Gloria Estefan, complete with maracas, congas, bongos, and confetti. Redwood presented Who Has Seen the Wind, set to the classic poem by Christina Rossetti, while Cedar brought a traditional favorite with Carol of the Bells, played on xylophones with two-part harmony. Birch delighted the audience with My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music. The Lower School portion concluded with a combined performance from Willow, Redwood, Cedar, and Birch, who came together for the uplifting piece Be a Candle of Hope, a song about spreading kindness and love.
The second concert highlighted the incredible talents of our 6th and 7th graders, who showcased individual African drumming pieces using formal djembe techniques. The Blue Group performed Boa Me by Ghanaian-English singer Fuse ODG featuring Ed Sheeran, the Red Group took on Go by Nigerian singer-songwriter Tekno, and the Yellow Group presented the traditional South African song Shosholoza. The Middle School students then united for a powerful finale with From a Distance by Bette Midler, filling the room with harmony and heart.
A huge thank you to Mr. Lee, Ms. Cervantes, and Ms. Dobbs for bringing the concert to life with beautiful decorations, creativity, and joyful entertainment. It was truly another unforgettable Aaron School Winter Concert! ❄️🎶💙
