In 2002, Aaron School began as a pre-K and early elementary school for children who benefitted from a specialized learning environment. Since then, we have blossomed into a private K-12 special education school across two buildings located in the heart of Manhattan.
Every day, we are guided by our mission: to give students with reading, writing, math, attention, sensory and social challenges a place to belong.
To help your child achieve their full potential, Aaron School provides a rigorous, specialized, and supportive academic program aligned with New York State Learning Standards. In addition, our clinical department offers a strong and comprehensive social skills program. Executive functioning, critical thinking, self-advocacy, resiliency, and independence are at the core of the curriculum at Aaron School.
Instructional Model
Elementary and Middle School students are placed in small, skill-based reading, writing and math groups to optimize their learning while receiving science, social studies, language arts in their homeroom class.
High School students experience a departmentalized model focusing on academic and social development while working in classes of no more than 12 students. These intense instruction models paired with a collaborative team approach, a multi-disciplinary focus and collaborative problem solving ensures that our students are receiving what they need.
Making an Impact
The results speak for themselves as we are proud of our 100% 12th grade graduation rate and have helped students enter traditional college and university programs, 2-year programs, special education universities, transition and trade programs, and, of course, the workforce. We recognize each student’s tremendous potential and provide the support and structure to help them achieve it.
Our faculty members are dedicated to creating a warm, nurturing, and supportive environment that encourages students to take risks. Teachers value students’ strengths while supporting their areas of challenge. Aaron School strongly believes that student learning should be ambitious and goal oriented, while fostering the development of individual strengths, effective communication skills, and healthy social relationships.
