Thanksgiving Feast

Aaron 30th Street Thanksgiving Feast

  |   30th street

Aaron School 30th Street students and faculty celebrated Thanksgiving by participating in an annual Thanksgiving Feast. Sponsored by the Aaron School Student Council, the Thanksgiving Feast featured a tasting menu of items prepared by students in the Art and Culinary classes. To prepare for the feast, the students collaborated to generate a menu that included traditional Thanksgiving foods, as well as allergy and dietary friendly foods.

During the week prior to the Thanksgiving Feast, as the Student Council created and posted flyers around the school, the students in Art and Culinary classes spent time in the Culinary Lab preparing the items for the feast. The students researched recipes and generated a list of the ingredients needed for each recipe. In doing so, the students practiced skills such as measurement, reading a recipe, abiding by rules of kitchen safety, and enlarging the recipes to account for the number of students and faculty in the school. The students also practiced teamwork and collaboration to ensure that the kitchen was running smoothly and that all materials were cleaned and properly stored. In addition to the work that was going on in the kitchen, the students also prepared materials and decorations for the feast.

When Aaron School 30th Street students arrived to lunch on Tuesday, November 21, they saw that their hard work had paid off! Student-made decorations were hanging from the ceiling and were displayed on the wall, and each lunch table was covered in a table cloth and contained a centerpiece. To open the Thanksgiving Feast, the Student Council President welcomed the students, thanked everyone for their hard work in preparing for the event, and debuted the awesome new Aaron School Falcon banner, which is now hanging above the staircase in the second floor hallway! The students were then invited to sample the foods that were prepared for the feast, including: turkey, cranberry sauce, apple muffins, sweet potatoes, dairy-free mashed potatoes, vegetarian lentil loaf, stuffing, cornbread, macaroni and cheese, salad and chocolate chip cookies!

The annual Thanksgiving Feast was a huge success! The students enjoyed a wonderful experience in which they dined together, spoke about their plans for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, and participated in an activity in which they wrote what they were thankful for on watercolor leaves, which then became part of a beautiful fall tree. Aaron School 30th Street students can’t wait until next year’s Thanksgiving Feast!
