“SURPRISE!”

Tara Zaro (Pine Room Teacher)

Hello Aaron School blog readers! The Pine Room at 45th Street recently earned their first SURPRISE for the 2021-2022 schoolyear! Together, as a group, they chose to have a pajama party at school! WAHOO! Students in the Pine Room got to wear pajamas of their choice for the entire school day. All week, students were talking about how excited they were to show off their favorite pajamas at the end of the week. Some of the cool pajama sets that were worn had super heroes, LEGOs and Mario characters on them. At the end of the day, the students got to relax and use mindfulness strategies on their colorful yoga mats, enjoy some yummy movie theater popcorn and watch the TV series “PJ Masks”.

Students in the Pine Room earn SURPRISE by showing expected behavior, working together as a team and participating during academic lessons. It took the class about three months to turn over all of the letters in the word SURPRISE, but they certainly did it!

In Social Skills class, the Pine Room students are learning all about the theme “teamwork,” which goes hand in hand with our class earning system! Students are participating in different role-playing scenarios and practicing using different phrases to complement and encourage one another. Taking turns is another skill that students are working on and have been doing an awesome job with throughout the day! Now that all of the letters of SURPRISE are turned back over, students are looking forward to see what’s next to earn!!!
