Pi Day: Aaron School Celebrates the Infinite Mathematical Constant
Every year on March 14 (a.k.a. 3.14), math lovers around the world celebrate the famous irrational number pi (π). At Aaron School, Pi Day has become a beloved annual tradition that brings students together to celebrate creativity, community, and the joy of learning.
This year’s Pi Day assembly took place in the gym, where students and faculty gathered for an afternoon filled with energy, collaboration, and friendly competition. One of the highlights of the event was the digit recitation challenge, where fourteen students volunteered to test their memory and focus by reciting as many digits of pi as possible. With the support and encouragement of their peers, students demonstrated impressive dedication and perseverance. The event concluded with a standout performance, as one student successfully recited 184 digits from memory.
Students also had the opportunity to engage in a language-based activity that connected vocabulary with math concepts. In a twist on previous years, students were challenged to generate as many words as possible that begin with the letter’s “p” and “i.” This activity encouraged both creativity and critical thinking, and students rose to the challenge with enthusiasm. The winning student recorded an impressive total of 86 words.
Creativity was further showcased through a paper plate decorating activity, where students transformed simple materials into unique, pi-inspired designs. This activity allowed students to express themselves artistically while still connecting to the theme of the day.
Then came the pie decorating challenge, which is always a major highlight of the event. Three students were randomly selected to decorate a pie using whipped cream, raspberries, and sprinkles within one minute. This activity brought lots of excitement and laughter to the gym, while also reinforcing team building as students cheered and encouraged those participating.
The assembly concluded with awards being distributed to recognize student participation and achievement. Winners from each competition received prizes such as Pi Day t-shirts, pi caps, homework passes, and other themed items.
Pi Day continues to be a meaningful tradition at Aaron School, offering students a chance to engage in learning, build their confidence, and feel part of a community. A special thank you to our STEAM Chair and STEAM teachers for organizing another successful event!
