On March 14th, the 30th Street Campus came alive with excitement as students, faculty, and staff gathered for the annual National Pi Day celebration. This event is dedicated to honoring the mathematical constant π (pi) and the birthday of renowned scientist Albert Einstein. Led by Aaron School’s wonderfully creative STEAM Department, a school-wide assembly featured some fun competition, hands-on activities, and group work. These activities were designed to make math enjoyable and accessible to everyone.

One of the most eagerly anticipated moments of the day was the Pi Day Competition. After weeks of practice, students proudly took the stage to recite as many digits of pi as they could from memory. This year’s winner amazed the audience by successfully reciting 172 digits from memory! The winner received a Pi tee-shirt for that amazing feat.

When asked how long it took to memorize these digits, this year’s winner said, “It took me two weeks and 4 days to memorize these. I grouped them by fours!”

But the fun didn’t stop there. Another activity had students racing against the clock to list as many words as possible containing the letters ‘pi,’ like inspiration and pineapple. The winner recorded a grand total of 86 words and also won a special prize. During the ‘Pi Skyline’ activity, students used graph paper to color vertical bars representing different digits of Pi. They then turned numbers into cityscapes resembling real-life skylines. The celebration wouldn’t be complete without some tasty fun in the form of a pie-decorating contest. Select students let their artistic skills shine as they designed pie masterpieces using whipped cream, sprinkles, and raspberries.

National Pi Day at the 30th Street Campus continues to be one of the most talked about events of the year with the goal of combining math, creativity, and friendly competition into a memorable experience for everyone involved. We can’t wait to see what next year’s celebration will bring!
