Character Education: Benevolence

Character Education: Benevolence

  |   Aaron School, Elementary School, Special Programs

This winter, 45th Street Aaron School students have been learning all about the power of DIVERSITY and the importance of accepting, welcoming, and including all people in our communities. Though this theme will be woven into all of our topics this year, the next character quality students will be focusing on exploring is BENEVOLENCE! In Social Skills and Peer Group classes, students will have the opportunity to practice kindness and consideration for all, including and accepting those around you, showing empathy towards others, and taking the time to understand others’ thoughts, ideas, and feelings. Students will understand the impact of following the Golden Rule – treating others the way you want to be treated – as well as the “ripple effect” and paying it forward. Aaron School students will begin to understand how demonstrating kindness and consideration towards others not only makes you feel good, but can make such a positive impact on friends, family, teachers, and the world around them!

This month, the Aaron School community will have the chance to participate in a Self-Care Challenge, which will be one school week devoted to engaging in as many kind acts towards YOURSELF as possible! It is important to practice self-care just as often as we engage in benevolent acts towards others, because we can only help others when our own cup is filled.

Please don’t forget to check out the bulletin board in the front hallway for BENEVEOLENCE quotes that you can take with you! If there is a quote, phrase, saying, or kind note you’d like to drop in the envelope, please feel free to do so! Through this curriculum, our intention is for every Aaron School student to build positive character traits to help them become BENEVOLENT, confident, and successful citizens of their communities, both in school and out!
